I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying… “Don’t judge a book by its cover” am I right? Did you know that very saying is actually scriptural? It is and I’ll prove it to you in just a minute, but before we do that let’s get back to our saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Ok then, what do you think that means? What kind of scenario would cause someone to make a statement like this? Obviously somewhere someone got left out or made fun of or was physically taken advantage of because of their size or appearance.
Have you ever been misunderstood? Maybe because you liked different things, you weren’t an athlete, or super cute, or didn’t wear the designer clothes? Maybe you’ve even thought that if they would just take the time to get to know you, you know they’d feel differently about you. Have you ever had a pity party for yourself about this? Come on now, tell the truth… That’s what I thought, we all have at times, but don’t let it bring you down because I have some very good news for you, you’re keeping pretty good company because Jesus did too. What do you mean Jesus did too? He got taken advantage of didn’t He? Doesn’t He still get taken advantage of? I mean think about it, God sent His son Jesus to be the Savior of the world, to be the ultimate sacrifice for humankind so that we could have a relationship with our creator. He was born to a virgin named Mary. He grew up as a child just as you and I have. He began ministering in the temple to adults as a very young man. Not many people believed Jesus when He claimed to be the Messiah.
No one believed Him! Does that sound familiar? They looked at the cover of the book didn’t they? They didn’t take time to listen to his heart and find out what the book (Jesus) had to say, they just went on looking for the Messiah that was foretold would come and save them from their sins. But you know what? I’m glad God said go to His son, if he wouldn’t have, I wouldn’t be who I am today and some of you wouldn’t be either.
If you would take time an open the book…. The Holy Bible… You’d find out that Jesus was crucified so that we could have a choice to live in Heaven or die and be in torment in Hell. The Bible says in John 14:6, that He (JESUS) is the way, the truth, and the Light and no man comes to the Father except through the Son… Let’s make a deal, let’s you and I make it start with us. Instead of looking and listening to all the negative things people have to say about God, let’s spread the gospel and the Spirit of Truth will do His part.
